Our School

We believe in the developmental approach, i.e. letting the child learn at the level where he/she is now, using age-appropriate activities and preparing an environment that provides stimulating and challenging materials.

We believe in offering free choice of activities in a safe and nurturing environment. This enables the child to gain self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-control.

We believe in using positive reinforcement rather than negative statements or punishment.

We trust the child to educate himself/herself in an enriched environment. We view adults as the facilitators of such an environment. Adults will provide support, focused attention, physical proximity and verbal encouragement.

We believe parents are their children's first and most influential teachers, and the school exists to help parents develop their own skills in working with their children. The school and the parents exist in a true cooperative relationship.

Our Curriculum

The Cotati-Rohnert Park Co-op Nursery School offers a play-based learning environment to develop the child's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Our small class sizes and same age class groupings foster a caring, enriching, and happy environment, where children are celebrated, supported, and accepted. Each day different teacher-guided activities, such as art projects, music, water play, baking, and tactile discovery, are offered within a period of free-play giving children a choice of participating in a new activity or a familiar one. In our school, children can get messy, try new things, and get excited about learning.

The physical classroom includes dedicated areas and educational toys to encourage pretending, building, reading, counting, creating, solving, thinking, and movement. During outdoor playtime, children can run off their energy playing together in our school boat, fort, playhouses, swings, slides, sandbox, and other equipment. Circle time helps young children learn how to listen and participate in a group and prepares them for future, more structured settings.
